MITA Goal: Sustainable and scalable model of providing low cost quality medical treatment for mentally ill patient in remote area.
MITA (Mental Illness Treatment Assistance) stands as a sustainable and scalable model, dedicated to providing affordable, high-quality, protocol-based, and standardized medical treatment for individuals facing mental health challenges. Initiated by 'the ant,' a pioneering voluntary organization based in Assam's Chirang District, BTAD, MITA aims to address the needs of mentally ill patients across Assam and eventually extend its reach to other parts of the Northeast.
Currently operational in 11 districts of Assam, MITA is being executed through local NGO partners. In Dhemaji District, Socio-Economic Development Organization (SEDO) has been actively implementing the program since January 2018, with technical support from 'the ant.' As part of MITA's outreach strategy, regular mental health camps are organized every 1st Sunday of the month at the SEDO campus in Kuwafala village, Dhemaji. These camps offer comprehensive treatments facilitated by experienced psychiatric doctors at an affordable cost of Rs. 400/- per month, covering consultation, medicines, and follow-up.
In a bid to extend the reach of mental healthcare services, MITA has expanded its camp initiatives to Jonai, the Sub-Division of Dhemaji, with the collaboration of North Star Club, Jonai, and a non-profit voluntary sector. Held on the 1st Friday of every month, these camps follow the same successful model and reference, ensuring that individuals in diverse locations can access essential mental health support. However, now we handed over to North Star Club, Jonai with 202 numbers of patients.
MITA, through its collaborative efforts with local partners like SEDO, continues to make a significant impact on mental healthcare accessibility. The program's success stories and community-driven approach underscore its commitment to addressing the mental health needs of the region. Looking ahead, MITA aims to further broaden its scope, bringing vital mental health services to more communities in need. This report reflects the dedication and progress made towards achieving these goals in the past year.
